What the hell is Ahi-Nama? Ahi-Nama: Ahi-Nama is Cuban slang meaning: “Here it is! / This is it!” – With the suggestion of having reached the best or “ultimate,” therefore you do not need to look anywhere else. Probably originally from the Spanish: “Aqui nada mas.” Urban Dictionary (the greatest source ever) Timba in Akron, OH? Hell yes. I know what you’re thinking: Not only will it not be authentic, but they probably suck. In both cases however, you’d be dead wrong. How could a bunch of Akronites capture the flair and culture of a music so far removed from the cloudy confines of Northeast Ohio? Did I happen to mention that our bandleader, Alex “10 Inch” Hoyt, lived and performed in Miami for 7 years? Or that Dan Kshywonis (boo) is one of the baddest drummers in Northeast Ohio? That Matthew DeRubertis (Akron’s hardest working yogi bassist) lays down the pocket like nobody’s business? Or that we have two amazing horn players (Nathan-Paul Davis & Tim Coyne) that’ll play so hard that your mind will want to blow you? * *Also – Clay Chabola is in the band as well. Plays the congas or something. Marius Narbutaitis Metal Artist My artistry in metal reflects many different styles, ranging from traditional Lithuanian folk art to free standing abstract forms. My works are crafted from new or recycled materials and may include found objects that blend with the theme of the creation. I define my use of strategic bends, textures and graceful curves, as a way of transforming rigid cold drawn metal into warm fluid-like forms that become aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Unlike a painter, my canvas is an unoccupied space where metal in a combination of dimension, shadows and textures replace brush strokes. “Working with metal brings out many challenges due to its nature to fight back. The only way to control it is with the strength of ones own mind and body.” -Marius-

Kirsten Nicole (KIX) Kix, from Akron, Ohio, is a mixed media artist whose love of art has opened doors to diverse and exciting opportunities. She has collaborated with most of Akron’s alternative theatre companies (New World Performance Lab, Wandering Aesthetics, Ma’ Sue Productions, The Center for Applied Drama & Autism)– and many others across Northeast Ohio. Her visual art is often displayed in locally-owned shops and galleries. Though her artistic medium may change, Kix’s style is distinctly her own.

Julianne Nipple, is an abstract artist and Kent State University Alumni. As an abstract artist she creates visual pieces of art using various forms of paper, canvas, and other materials around her to incorporate into her artwork. The materials used for this particular piece of art were sumi ink, oil pastel, gold leaf, spray paint, and paper. Technical influences for this piece include artist Jackson Pollock and Jack McWhorter. The paper medium here becomes an arena for the mind, allowing the subconscious psyche of the artist to create and release raw emotion of the human experience. The image and title is intended to relate to, and spark emotion for the viewer, as well as to bring awareness to particular subject matter. This art piece, called “When the Grim Reaper Stole You from Me”, is symbolic of an extremely raw human emotion. It is a vulnerable piece about the death of a loved one and the effects and process of grief. This artwork is dedicated to a best friend and artist that was lost this year. To the viewer that relates to this artwork in any aspect, Julianne Nipple hopes that it will aid in the healing process involved in loss, and offers that, “Sometimes in the death of a loved one, when the darkness surrounds us, it is possible for us to receive beautiful gifts of hope, on this journey of life”. As quoted from a dear friend, and echoed by many other successful people: “Losing it all. Gaining Everything.”

I am a 17 year old aspiring African-American/Nigerian artist. My art demonstrates and displays everything BLACK: the black lifestyle, black fashion, black issues, black culture, and the black struggle. My God given artistic hand allows me to communicate with others through art on a more meaningful level while still expressing who I am as a Black individual. I take deep pride in my African American/ Nigerian identity because I believe it is the root source of my intelligence, competitiveness, ambitiousness, and persistence I consider myself a symbol of black girl magic or in simpler terms, I am my ancestors wildest dreams.
